In a deed dated 11 March 1834, Betsey Keeler, her husband Andrew S. Keeler of Keeseville, Essex Co NY, along with Everett Rich, of Madrid, St. Lawrence Co, NY, sold their share of property in Charlotte, Chittenden Co, VT, belonging to Sarah Ann Rich, recently deceased, to Roxy Ann Rich, Caroline Rich, George Rich, and Mary E. Rich.²

She is buried in the Webster Street Cemetery, in Malone, Franklin County, New York. Per cemetery abstract, she died 11 Feb 1856, wife of Andrew S. Keeler, age 64 years.

Samuel Rich is identified as an heir in the probate records of his father.¹

He was born circa 1810, or afterward, according to Oregon land claim and census records, therefore could not have been the son of Anna Hurlburt, and was not identified as an heir of Sarah Wheelock in her probate records. An unsourced annotation on his father's Find A Grave memorial states that he was the son of his father's second wife, who was a niece of Anna Hurlburt, possibly Roxanna Hurlburt, daughter of Thaddeus Hurlburt (a guess based solely on the fact that Samuel's next child was named Roxanna, and none of the family trees on FamilySearch.org or Ancestry.com contradict the hypothesis).

Donation Land Claims were granted to settlers of Oregon who arrived prior to 1853. Samuel Rich, born 1810 in Chittenden Co, Vermont, arrived in Oregon in Sep 1849, and made such a claim for land in Umpqua Co, Oregon.²

In 1860 he was at the 5th District, Umpqua Co, OR, sherrif, age 46, born Vermont, living by himself. In 1870 he was living in Calapooia, Douglas Co, OR, store clerk, age 53, born Vermont, living with John Grow, age 27, photographer, and Amil Zelinsky, age 20, store clerk. In 1880 he was age 65, a boarder in the household of James L. Cooper in Wilbur, Douglas Co, OR.

He died intestate 7 Oct 1883 in Douglas Co, OR, in the house of James L. Cooper who was administrator of his estate. He was unmarried and had no relatives in Oregon. The estate administrator could identify only one relative - a niece named Catherine (Rich) Greene, wife of General Oliver D. Greene. Per family tree on FamilySearch.org, Catharine (Rich) Green was the daughter of Hiram Rich, and grand-daughter of Samuel Rich and Anna Hurlburt, proving that this was the same Samuel who is listed as an heir in the probate records of Samuel Rich of Chittenden Co, VT.³
